Save the date

Unfortunately, for various safety reasons, in consultation with all those involved, we have had to make the decision to go online again this year. This means that students from all the above-mentioned conservatoriums will attend the Focus Day from their own building.

You will be able to follow this day via Zoom: Meeting ID: 289 218 8886 / Passcode: 890753.

Jan Pustjens Focus Day - 15 january 2023

Dear friends and interested parties,

We are very happy that we can finally go live again this Sunday with our Jan Pustjens Focus Day at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and then immediately with a very special edition.

The Jan Pustjens Foundation commissioned a composition from Nick Woud in connection with his retirement last year as solo timpanist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and his imminent retirement at the end of this season as a teacher at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
His composition ‘Binding’ for timpani solo + 6 percussionists, conducted by Herman Rieken, will be the opening of the evening program. Per conservatory 1 student is delegated to participate in this work.

In the morning the world premiere of Binding will be prepared, conducted by Herman Rieken, in presence of the composer. Between 1 pm and 5 pm the various ensembles of the conservatories play well-known orchestral percussion repertoire. They are coached in it, not by the own teacher, but a teacher from another conservatory. An exciting cross-pollination!

We are also very honoured with the permission of director Carmen Cobos and producer Kees Rijninks for the preview of the documentary ‘The Royal Republic’. The documentary fits in beautifully with the theme of this day, ‘The percussion section in the symphony orchestra’.

The evening program will start at 07:30 pm.

In The Royal Republic the Spanish/Dutch filmmaker Carmen Cobos is allowed to film an exclusive group of musicians within the Dutch Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. They never receive attention, but would be badly missed if not present: they are the timpani- and percussion section. It is a pleasure to get to know these five men and discover the love for their profession, the care for their instruments and the appreciation of their mutual connection. From February 9, film distributor Amstelfilm will release The Royal Republic in Dutch cinemas.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you this Sunday!

Best wishes,

The board of the Jan Pustjens Foundation

Nieuws

Dear friends and interested parties,

We are very happy that we can finally go live again this Sunday with our Jan Pustjens Focus Day at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and then immediately with a very special edition.

On Sunday 7 February  the JP Focus-Day took place fort he 7th time. The general theme was “improvisation”.
The full cooperation and enthousiasm of the master Alexandre Babel of Eklekto, Geneva Percussion Center, made it a highly succesful event.

In 2018, The Jan Pustjens Foundation visited the TROMP percussion competition to hand out a special prize to further support a young talent.
The prize was given to Elliott Gaston-Ross! We would like to wish him all the best in his promising career and musical journey!

Impressions of the 3th. Jan Pustjens Focus Day on 28th. January 2018 in the Bernard Haitink Zaal of the Conservatorium Amsterdam.

Thanks to the contribution of the Jan Pustjens Foundation, composer Stan Verberkt and percussionist Mervyn Groot were able to enter their residency at Oerol 2017 in full concentration and inspiration.
